Details are important to us, at CLB Plumbing we pay particular attention to the following aspects of your bathroom design in order to ensure a stellar result to your renovation.

Mixers: Particular attention must be paid when deciding on the correct mixers for your needs. As they are one of, if not the main touch points in your bathroom. Whether its a wall mixer, basin mixer, shower mixer or bath mixer, ensuing the correct mixer placement, layout and height, is essential to the design of the bathroom being practical, intuitive and non-intrusive.

These points are set at the rough in stage when the walls and floors are at frame stage. So ensuring these are correct before the bathroom tiles and fixtures are installed is a critical step in making sure everything is going to line up and fit-off correctly.

Pressure limiting may have to be applied for mixers to comply with their warranties so always check the recommended pressure that your manufacturer specifies and then make sure your properties water pressure is not more than the manufacturers spec. We can assist with pressure limiting installs and advice.

Shower: Showers are an essential part of any bathroom design, the options can almost be overwhelming, from a polymarble shower base, recessed shower bases and open screen designs. Choosing the correct shower fittings for your needs also goes a long way, shower rails are a good all-in-one solution or you may prefer a waterfall style ceiling shower head or a combination of designs, we are happy to draw from our vast experience to ensure you get the shower you’ve always wanted.

Basin: Bathroom basins can be found in many shapes and sizes, they can be counter top, recessed or undermount. As shown in the the image below the choice of bowl ties in directly with the mounting surface as it needs to be correct to accept the basin. For example, an undermount or recessed basin must have the correct cutout in the vanity prior to installation which is less so the case for a counter top.

A wide variety of finishes and materials can be used to add both colour and texture to your bathroom. Ceramic basins, polymarble and stainless basins are some of the most common. With colours ranging from traditional porcelain to matte black, some are only limited by your imagination.

Vanity: Bathroom storage is the key to a clutter-free and visually pleasing bathroom, take time to consider your daily routine and how all the items involved are stored. Doing this will help give you a clear vision of what kind of vanity you want, some vanities whilst visually appealing, could be doing more to make your life easier, so it’s all about finding that balance.

Vanities can be either wall-hung or freestanding and come in a range of finishes and options from compact powder room vanities to large custom made and designed units to suit the exact dimensions you require. Drawers and cupboards are the standard option for storage which must be decided before rough in as the drawers can foul on the plumbing if not accounted for.

Vanity tops are another opportunity for design flair coming in all sorts of materials and finishes the most common materials are stone, laminate timber and a vast-array of recycled material composites.

Bath: Baths can be a great feature of any bathroom as they are often the largest item in the room, this means that careful consideration and planning is required when installing a bath, as the margins for error are much smaller and a misplaced bath can throw out your entire rooms logistics.

All styles of bath come with various pros and cons, here are the main ones that come to mind:

Freestanding baths create a striking visual effect, however they can be difficult to clean and can create issues in regards to accessibility and practicality for children/storage. Compared to a Hob-mounted bath which fills in the surrounding area of the bath creating a more practical environment making it easier to clean and store items.

This can be mitigated by installing internal wall niches (pictured below), these are a clever way of utilising space to create a non-obtrusive storage shelf, also used in a lot of shower applications.

Toilet: Although not the most glamorous fixture in a household toilets have come a long way in terms of technology, the options available to you depending on your requirements, from environmentally friendly water saving options to slick hidden in-wall cisterns and back to wall varieties. Investing in a good toilet is definitely worth it in the long run, as toilets from a major manufacturer have a higher likelihood of spare parts being available.

As it is one of the most used fixtures in the household and involves a lot more moving parts, the quality and design of which can define water usage and maintenance requirements.
